This autumn, Shanghai International Convention Center Oriental Riverside Hotel partners with POP BAKERY to introduce a limited-edition cake collection inspired by THE MONSTERS Retro Barber Shop, bringing a playful expression of contemporary pop culture to the refined riverside setting of Lujiazui.

Drawing inspiration from retro aesthetics and distinctive styling, the collection transforms the art of pastry into a whimsical visual experience, inviting guests to discover a new interpretation of indulgence against the backdrop of Shanghai’s iconic waterfront.

A Bespoke Expression of Retro Style

At the heart of the collection is a series of intricately crafted floral cakes featuring three signature retro hairstyles: Retro Lady Curls, Slicked-Back Hair and Retro Perm Curls. A surprise limited-edition design is also available at random, adding an element of discovery to each experience.

Inspired by the playful anticipation of a blind-box reveal, every cake offers its own distinctive character. The hotel’s pastry chefs employ delicate buttercream piping techniques to recreate the intricate details of each hairstyle, transforming the cakes into miniature works of edible art.

A Refined Composition of Flavors

Beyond their distinctive appearance, the cakes offer a carefully layered flavor profile. Dark chocolate mousse, bayberry jelly and pistachio mousse are complemented by a delicate pistachio biscuit base, creating a harmonious balance of textures and flavors.

Rich dark chocolate lends depth and indulgence, while the fresh, sweet-tart character of bayberry provides a lively contrast. Notes of pistachio add a subtle nuttiness, resulting in a dessert that is as considered in flavour as it is distinctive in presentation.
